Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDB EFEFEF BFBFBF EGEGEG CFCFCF HIHIHI

The land is white an' far awa'A
Abune ae bush an' treeB
Nae fit is movin' i' the snawC
On the hills I canna seeB
For the sun may shine an' the darkness fa'D
But aye it's nicht to meB
-
I hear the whaup on windy daysE
Cry up amang the peatF
Whaur on the road that speels the braesE
I've heard my ain sheep's feetF
An' the bonnie lambs wi' their canny waysE
An' the silly yowes that bleatF
-
But noo wi' them I mauna' beB
An' by the fire I bideF
To sit and listen patientlyB
For a fit on the great hillsideF
A fit that'll come to the door for meB
Doon through the pasture wideF
-
Maybe I'll hear the baa'in' flocksE
Ae nicht when time seems langG
An' ken there's a step on the scattered rocksE
The fleggit sheep amangG
An' a voice that cries an' a hand that knocksE
To bid me rise an' gangG
-
Then to the hills I'll lift my eenC
Nae matter tho' they're blindF
For Ane will treid the stanes betweenC
And I will walk behindF
Till up far up i' the midnicht keenC
The licht o' Heaven I'll findF
-
An' maybe when I'm up the hillH
An' stand abune the steepI
I'll turn aince mair to look my fillH
On my ain auld flock o' sheepI
An' I'll leave them lyin' sae white an' stillH
On the quiet braes asleepI
