Villanelle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAABA ABA ABA ABA ABA ABA ABAA

We said farewell my youth and IA
When all fair dreams were gone or goingB
And Love s red lips were cold and dryA
When white blooms fell from tree tops highA
Our Austral winter s way of snowingB
We said farewell my youth and IA
-
We did not sigh what use to sighA
When Death passed as a mower mowingB
And Love s red lips were cold and dryA
-
But hearing Life s stream thunder byA
That sang of old through flowers flowingB
We said farewell my youth and IA
-
There was no hope in the blue skyA
No music in the low winds blowingB
And Love s red lips were cold and dryA
-
My hair is black as yet then whyA
So sad I know not only knowingB
We said farewell my youth and IA
-
All are not buried when they dieA
Dead souls there are through live eyes showingB
When Love s red lips are cold and dryA
-
So seeing where the dead men lieA
Out of their hearts the grave flowers growingB
We said farewell my youth and IA
When Love s red lips were cold and dryA
