The Little People Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCACB DEFDFE GHIGIH IJKIKJ LIMLMN OPQOQR STIUIT

WHO are these strange small folkA
These that come to our homes as kingsB
Asking nor leave nor graceC
Bending our necks to their yokeA
Taking the highest placeC
And mastery of all thingsB
-
Whence they come none may knowD
But a wondrous land it must beE
Angels in exile theyF
Here in this dull world belowD
Creatures of sinful clayF
We feel near their purityE
-
Clearer their young eyes areG
Than the dew in the cups of flowersH
Gleaming when shines at dawnI
Faintly the morning s one starG
Eyes whose still gaze indrawnI
Sees things unseen by oursH
-
Deep in those orbs sereneI
Little planets be ringed and brightJ
Mysteries marvellous lieK
Known unto us they might meanI
Faith without fear to dieK
All sure of the waiting lightJ
-
Dimpled their hands and smallL
Would ye therefore their might contemnI
Seem they for play designedM
Fate and the Future withalL
Weal yea and Woe of mankindM
Lie hid in the palms of themN
-
Tyrants whose terrible namesO
Make men pale with affright intenseP
Worshipping kiss their feetQ
Touch of their little hands tamesO
Fiercest of hearts that beatQ
So mighty is InnocenceR
-
These are the children dearS
From a country unknown of chartsT
Dim Land of Souls UnbornI
Rosy as morn they come hereU
Filling with joy forlornI
Waste places in our heartsT
