THE WATERS make a music lowA
The river reedsB
Are trembling to the tunes of long agoA
Dead days and deedsB
Become alive again as onC
I float and floatD
Through shadows of the golden summers goneE
And springs remoteD
-
Above my head the trees bloom outF
In white and redG
Great blossoms that make glad the air aboutF
And old suns shedG
-
Their rays athwart them Ah the lightH
Is bright and fairI
No suns that shine upon me now are brightH
As those suns wereJ
-
And gazing down into the streamK
I see a faceL
As sweet as buds that blossom in a dreamK
Ere sorrows chaseL
-
Fair dreams from men and send in lieuM
Sad thoughts A wreathN
Of blue bells binds the head a bluer blueM
The eyes beneathN
-
This is my little Annie s faceL
My child sweetheartO
Whom long ago I lost in that dark placeL
Where all lives partO
-
Beside me still I see her standP
Who is no moreQ
She walked with me through childhood hand in handP
But at the doorQ
-
Of youth departed from me FainR
Was I that dayS
To go with her Ah sweetheart come againT
This First of MayS
