Poppies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABA CDADC EFAFE GHAHG AIAIA

These are the flowers of sleepA
That nod in the heavy noonB
Ere the brown shades eastward creepA
To a drowsy and dreamful tuneB
These are the flowers of sleepA
-
Love s lilies are passion paleC
But these on the sun kissed floodD
Of the corn that rolls breast deepA
Burn redder than drops of bloodD
On a dead king s golden mailC
-
Heart s dearest I would that weE
These blooms of forgetfulnessF
Might bind on our brows and steepA
Our love in Lethe ere lessF
Grow its flame with thee or meE
-
When Time with his evil eyeG
The beautiful Love has slainH
There is nought to gain or keepA
Thereafter and all is vainH
Should we wait to see Love dieG
-
Sweetheart of the joys men reapA
We have reaped tis time to restI
Why should we wake but to weepA
Sleep and forgetting is bestI
These are the flowers of sleepA
