Disillusion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBAB CDCDCD EEE EEE BEBEBE FBFBFB GCDCDCFor some forty years and over | A |
Poets had with me their way | B |
And they made me think that Sorrow | C |
Owned the Night and owned the Day | B |
And the corpse beneath the clover | A |
Had a hopeful word to say | B |
- | |
And they made me think that Sorrow | C |
Was the Shadow in the Sun | D |
And they made me think To morrow | C |
Was a gift to everyone | D |
And the days I used to borrow | C |
Till my credit now is done | D |
- | |
And they told me softly sweetly | E |
That when Life had lost its glee | E |
I could be consoled completely | E |
- | |
By the Forest or the Sea | E |
And they wrote their rhymes so neatly | E |
That they quite deluded me | E |
- | |
But when Sorrow is at sorest | B |
And the heart weeps silently | E |
Is there healing in the Forest | B |
Is there solace in the Sea | E |
And the God whom thou adorest | B |
Has He any help for thee | E |
- | |
Does it soothe the spent man dying | F |
That the stars are shining bright | B |
O'er the field where he is lying | F |
And the moon with all her light | B |
Does she help his bare soul flying | F |
Through the vast and lonely Night | B |
- | |
Give to me the grasp of true man | G |
Though his state be high or low | C |
Give to me the kiss of woman | D |
Let your Seas and Forests go | C |
There is nothing but the human | D |
Touch can heal the human woe | C |
