When I was a childA
I never thought I had a dadB
For always it was only mom thereC
Making sure I had enough to eatD
From her struggles in tiling the earthE
She stood my guidance angelF
And my protector when the others mockedG
Trying to make me ashamed of my kindH
Only she could enfold me in her warmthI
At the sound of every thunder strike during rainy seasonJ
Only she gave her lifeK
That her seeds survive the Ajayi crisis in Nasarawa stateL
Only mom was there running from the farm to homeM
To hide us in the bush when the crisis startedN
After which she left amidst the gun shotsO
To get some eggs and floorP
To prepare what to eat in the bushQ
Before we headed for makurdiN
-
In makurdi we landed in Uncle's house in yagbaR
And it was challenging for a physically challenged childN
And a village boy coming to the city at same timeS
Yet she believed I can make itN
By making sure I attend classes dailyT
Although I didn't like schoolU
-
Few years afterV
I think in my dad finally appearedN
And the truth isW
I didn't like himX
Because in our first encounter I felt he didn't like me tooN
Because as a last bornY
I expected to be treated like oneJ
Especially from a father I longed for his loveZ
But it was the oppositeN
With him giving me an uninterested lookA2
-
And even when he later passed on in same yearB2
I felt like nothing happenedN
While the other family members were in griefC2
-
Today I think I was wrongD2
In the way I placed him in my heartN
For much happened that I didn't knowE2
My sister toldN
Some how I forgive himX
But you all know there isn't deep love for a strangerV
