The Way To Happiness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIJKL MMJJNH OOPPQQOORRHow long ye miserable blind | A |
Shall idle dreams engage your mind | A |
How long the passions make their flight | B |
At empty shadows of delight | B |
No more in paths of error stray | C |
The Lord thy Jesus is the way | C |
The spring of happiness and where | D |
Shou'd men seek happiness but there | D |
Then run to meet him at your need | E |
Run with boldness run with speed | E |
For he forsook his own abode | F |
To meet thee more than half the road | F |
He laid aside his radiant crown | G |
And love for mankind brought him down | G |
To thirst and hunger pain and woe | H |
To wounds to death it self below | H |
And he that suffer'd these alone | I |
For all the World despises none | J |
To bid the soul that's sick be clean | K |
To bring the lost to life again | L |
To comfort those that grieve for ill | M |
Is his peculiar goodness still | M |
And as the thoughts of parents run | J |
Upon a dear and only son | J |
So kind a love his mercies shew | N |
So kind and more extreamly so | H |
- | |
Thrice happy men or find a phrase | O |
That speaks your bliss with greater praise | O |
Who most obedient to thy call | P |
Leaving pleasures leaving all | P |
With heart with soul with strength incline | Q |
O sweetest Jesu to be thine | Q |
Who know thy will observe thy ways | O |
And in thy service spend their days | O |
E'en death that seems to set them free | R |
But brings them closer still to thee | R |
