The Way To Happiness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIJKL MMJJNH OOPPQQOORR

How long ye miserable blindA
Shall idle dreams engage your mindA
How long the passions make their flightB
At empty shadows of delightB
No more in paths of error strayC
The Lord thy Jesus is the wayC
The spring of happiness and whereD
Shou'd men seek happiness but thereD
Then run to meet him at your needE
Run with boldness run with speedE
For he forsook his own abodeF
To meet thee more than half the roadF
He laid aside his radiant crownG
And love for mankind brought him downG
To thirst and hunger pain and woeH
To wounds to death it self belowH
And he that suffer'd these aloneI
For all the World despises noneJ
To bid the soul that's sick be cleanK
To bring the lost to life againL
To comfort those that grieve for illM
Is his peculiar goodness stillM
And as the thoughts of parents runJ
Upon a dear and only sonJ
So kind a love his mercies shewN
So kind and more extreamly soH
-
Thrice happy men or find a phraseO
That speaks your bliss with greater praiseO
Who most obedient to thy callP
Leaving pleasures leaving allP
With heart with soul with strength inclineQ
O sweetest Jesu to be thineQ
Who know thy will observe thy waysO
And in thy service spend their daysO
E'en death that seems to set them freeR
But brings them closer still to theeR
