With kind compassion hear my cryA
O Jesu Lord of life on highA
As when the Summer's seasons beatB
With scorching flame and parching heatB
The trees are burnt the flowers fadeC
And thirsty gaps in earth are madeC
My thoughts of comfort languish soD
And so my soul is broke by woeD
Then on thy servant's drooping headE
Thy dews of blessing sweetly shedE
Let those a quick refreshment giveF
And raise my mind and bid me liveG
My fears of danger while I breathH
My dread of endless hell beneathI
My sense of sorrow for my sinJ
To springing comfort change withinJ
Change all my sad complaints for easeK
To chearful notes of endless praiseL
Nor let a tear mine eyes employM
But such as owe their birth to joyM
Joy transporting sweet and strongN
Fit to fill and raise my songN
Joy that shall resounded beO
While days and nights succeed for meO
Be not as a Judge severeP
For so thy presence who may bearQ
On all my words and actions lookR
I know they're written in thy bookR
But then regard my mournful cryA
And look with Mercy's gracious eyeA
What needs my blood since thine will doS
To pay the debt to justice dueS
O tender mercy's art divineT
Thy sorrow proves the cure of mineT
Thy dropping wounds thy woful smartU
Allay the bleedings of my heartU
Thy death in death's extreme of painV
Restores my soul to life againW
Guide me then for here I burnX
To make my Saviour some returnX
I'll rise if that will please him stillY
And sure I've heard him own it willY
I'll trace his steps and bear my crossZ
Despising ev'ry grief and lossZ
Since he despising pain and shameA2
First took up his and did the sameA2
