The Convert's Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFGHHBBIIGFJJKKLL MMNNOO PPQQRRSSHH TTKKUUBlessed Light of saints on high | A |
Who fill the mansions of the sky | A |
Sure defence whose mercy still | B |
Preserves thy subjects here from ill | B |
O my Jesus make me know | C |
How to pay the thanks I owe | C |
- | |
As the fond sheep that id'ly strays | D |
With wanton play thro' winding ways | D |
Which never hits the road of home | E |
O'er Wilds of danger learns to roam | E |
'Till weari'd out with idle fear | F |
And passing there and turning here | G |
He will for rest to covert run | H |
And meet the wolf he wish'd to shun | H |
Thus wretched I thro' wanton will | B |
Run blind and headlong on in ill | B |
'Twas thus from sin to sin I flew | I |
And thus I might have perish'd too | I |
But mercy dropt the likeness here | G |
And shew'd and sav'd me from my fear | F |
While o'er the darkness of my mind | J |
The sacred spirit purely shin'd | J |
And mark'd and bright'ned all the way | K |
Which leads to everlasting day | K |
And broke the thick'ning clouds of sin | L |
And fix'd the light of love within | L |
- | |
From hence my ravish'd soul aspires | M |
And dates the rise of its desires | M |
From hence to thee my God I turn | N |
And fervent wishes say I burn | N |
I burn thy glorious face to see | O |
And live in endless joy with thee | O |
- | |
There's no such ardent kind of flame | P |
Between the lover and the dame | P |
Nor such affection parents bear | Q |
To their young and only heir | Q |
Tho' join'd together both conspire | R |
And boast a doubled force of fire | R |
My tender heart within its seat | S |
Dissolves before the scorching heat | S |
As soft'ning wax is taught to run | H |
Before the warmness of the sun | H |
- | |
O my flame my pleasing pain | T |
Burn and purify my stain | T |
Warm me burn me day by day | K |
'Till you purge my earth away | K |
'Till at the last I throughly shine | U |
And turn a torch of love divine | U |
