On A Lady With A Foul Breath Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEFGHIIJJKKLLMM NNKOPPQQRRJJArt thou alive It cannot be | A |
There's so much Rottenness in Thee | A |
Corruption only is in Death | B |
And what's more Putrid than thy Breath | B |
Think not you Live because you Speak | C |
For Graves such hollow Sounds can make | D |
And Respiration can't suffice | E |
For Vapours do from Caverns rise | F |
From Thee such noisom Stenches come | G |
Thy Mouth betrays thy Breast a Tomb | H |
Thy Body is a Corpse that goes | I |
By Magick rais'd from its Repose | I |
A Pestilence that walks by Day | J |
But falls at Night to Worms and Clay | J |
But I will to my Chloris run | K |
Who will not let me be undone | K |
The Sweets her Virgin Breath contains | L |
Are fitted to remove my Pains | L |
There will I healing Nectar sip | M |
And to be sav'd approach her Lip | M |
Tho' if I touch the matchless Dame | N |
I'm sure to burn with inward Flame | N |
Thus when I wou'd one Danger shun | K |
I'm strait upon another thrown | O |
I seek a Cure one Sore to ease | P |
Yet in that Cure's a New Disease | P |
But Love tho' fatal still can bless | Q |
And greater Dangers hide the less | Q |
I'll go where Passion bids me fly | R |
And chuse my Death since I must Dye | R |
As Doves pursu'd by Birds of Prey | J |
Venture with milder Man to stay | J |
