My Days Have Been So Wondrous Free Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF GHEI JKLM NONO PCPE QRQRMy days have been so wondrous free | A |
The little birds that fly | B |
With careless ease from tree to tree | A |
Were but as bless'd as I | B |
- | |
Ask gliding waters if a tear | C |
Of mine increas'd their stream | D |
Or ask the flying gales if e'er | E |
I lent one sigh to them | F |
- | |
But now my former days retire | G |
And I'm by beauty caught | H |
The tender chains of sweet desire | E |
Are fix'd upon my thought | I |
- | |
Ye nightingales ye twisting pines | J |
Ye swains that haunt the grove | K |
Ye gentle echoes breezy winds | L |
Ye close retreats of love | M |
- | |
With all of nature all of art | N |
Assist the dear design | O |
Oh teach a young unpractic'd heart | N |
To make my Nancy mine | O |
- | |
The very thought of change I hate | P |
As much as of despair | C |
Nor ever covet to be great | P |
Unless it be for her | E |
- | |
'Tis true the passion in my mind | Q |
Is mix'd with soft distress | R |
Yet while the fair I love is kind | Q |
I cannot wish it less | R |
