My Days Have Been So Wondrous Free Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF GHEI JKLM NONO PCPE QRQR

My days have been so wondrous freeA
The little birds that flyB
With careless ease from tree to treeA
Were but as bless'd as IB
-
Ask gliding waters if a tearC
Of mine increas'd their streamD
Or ask the flying gales if e'erE
I lent one sigh to themF
-
But now my former days retireG
And I'm by beauty caughtH
The tender chains of sweet desireE
Are fix'd upon my thoughtI
-
Ye nightingales ye twisting pinesJ
Ye swains that haunt the groveK
Ye gentle echoes breezy windsL
Ye close retreats of loveM
-
With all of nature all of artN
Assist the dear designO
Oh teach a young unpractic'd heartN
To make my Nancy mineO
-
The very thought of change I hateP
As much as of despairC
Nor ever covet to be greatP
Unless it be for herE
-
'Tis true the passion in my mindQ
Is mix'd with soft distressR
Yet while the fair I love is kindQ
I cannot wish it lessR
