A Riddle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHIJIJ KGKGUpon a Bed of humble clay | A |
In all her Garments loose | B |
A Prostitute my Mother lay | A |
To ev'ry Comer's use | B |
'Till one Gallant in heat of love | C |
His Own Peculiar made her | D |
And to a Region far above | C |
And softer Beds convey'd her | D |
But in his Absence to his Place | E |
His rougher Rival came | F |
And with a cold constrain'd Embrace | E |
Begat me on the Dame | F |
I then appear'd to Publick View | G |
A Creature wondrous bright | H |
But shortly perishable too | G |
Inconstant nice and light | H |
On Feathers not together fast | I |
I wildly flew about | J |
And from my Father's country past | I |
To find my Mother out | J |
Where her Gallant of her beguil'd | K |
With me enamour'd grew | G |
And I that was my Mother's Child | K |
Brought forth my Mother too | G |
