A Hymn For Evening Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCBBAADDBBEEFFGG HHIIJKLMNNBBDDOOPPThe beam repelling mists arise | A |
And evening spreads obscurer skies | A |
The twilight will the night forerun | B |
And night itself be soon begun | B |
Upon thy knees devoutly bow | C |
And pray the Lord of glory now | C |
To fill thy breast or deadly sin | B |
May cause a blinder night within | B |
And whether pleasing vapours rise | A |
Which gently dim the closing eyes | A |
Which make the weary members bless'd | D |
With sweet refreshment in their rest | D |
Or whether spirits in the brain | B |
Dispel their soft embrace again | B |
And on my watchful bed I stay | E |
Forsook by sleep and waiting day | E |
Be God for ever in my view | F |
And never He forsake me too | F |
But still as day concludes in night | G |
To break again with new born light | G |
His wondrous bounty let me find | H |
With still a more enlighten'd mind | H |
When grace and love in one agree | I |
Grace from God and love from me | I |
Grace that will from heaven inspire | J |
Love that seals it with desire | K |
Grace and love that mingle beams | L |
And fill me with encreasing flames | M |
Thou that hast Thy palace far | N |
Above the moon and every star | N |
Thou that sittest on a throne | B |
To which the night was never known | B |
Regard my voice and make me bless'd | D |
By kindly granting its request | D |
If thoughts on Thee my soul employ | O |
My darkness will afford me joy | O |
'Till Thou shalt call and I shall soar | P |
And part with darkness evermore | P |
