Propitious Son of God to theeA
With all my soul I bend my kneeA
My wish I send my want impartB
And dedicate my mind and heartB
For as an absent parent's sonC
Whose second year is only runC
When no protecting friend is nearD
Void of wit and void of fearD
With things that hurt him fondly playsE
Or here he falls or there he straysE
So shou'd my soul's eternal guideF
The sacred spirit be deny'dF
Thy servant soon the loss wou'd knowG
And sink in sin or run to woeG
-
O spirit bountifully kindF
Warm possess and fill my mindF
Disperse my sins with light divineH
And raise the flames of love with thineH
Before thy pleasures rightly priz'dF
Let wealth and honour be despis'dF
And let the Father's glory beA
More dear itself than life to meA
-
Sing of Jesus virgins singI
Him your everlasting KingI
Sing of Jesus chearful youthJ
Him the God of love and truthJ
Write and raise a song divineH
Or come and hear and borrow mineH
Son Eternal word supremeK
Who made the universal frameL
Heav'n and all its shining showG
Earth and all it holds belowG
Bow with mercy bow thine earM
While we sing thy praises hereM
Son Eternal ever bless'dF
Resting on the Father's breastF
Whose tender love for all providesN
Whose power over all presidesN
Bow with pity bow thine earM
While we sing thy praises hearM
-
Thou by pity's soft extreamL
Mov'd and won and set on flameL
Assum'd the form of man and fellO
In pains to rescue man from hellO
How bright thine humble glories riseP
And match the lustre of the skiesP
From death and hell's dejected stateF
Arising thou resum'd thy seatF
And golden thrones of bliss prepar'dF
Above to be thy saints rewardF
-
How bright thy glorious honours riseP
And with new lustre grace the skiesP
For thee the sweet seraphick ChoirQ
Raise the voice and tune the LyreR
And praises with harmonious soundsS
Through all the highest heav'n reboundsS
-
O make our notes with theirs agreeA
And bless the souls that sing of theeA
To thee the churches here rejoiceT
The solemn organs aid the voiceT
To sacred roofs the sound we raiseE
The sacred roofs resound thy praiseE
And while our notes in one agreeA
O bless the church that sings to theeA
