Air Sleep on sleep on my Kathleen dearA
salvete fratres Asini ST FRANCISB
-
-
Write on write on ye Barons dearA
Ye Dukes write hard and fastC
The good we've sought for many a yearA
Your quills will bring at lastC
One letter more Newcastle penD
To match Lord Kenyon's twoE
And more than Ireland's host of menD
One brace of Peers will doE
Write on write on etcF
-
Sure never since the precious useG
Of pen and ink beganH
Did letters writ by fools produceG
Such signal good to manH
While intellect 'mong high and lowI
Is marching on they sayJ
Give me the Dukes and Lords who goI
Like crabs the other wayJ
Write on write on etcF
-
Even now I feel the coming lightK
Even now could Folly lureL
My Lord Mountcashel too to writeK
Emancipation's sureL
By geese we read in historyM
Old Rome was saved from illN
And now to quills of geese we seeM
Old Rome indebted stillN
Write on write on etcF
-
Write write ye Peers nor stoop to styleO
Nor beat for sense aboutP
Things little worth a Noble's whileO
You're better far withoutP
Oh ne'er since asses spoke of yoreQ
Such miracles were doneR
For write but four such letters moreQ
And Freedom's cause is wonR
