While History's Muse Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCCD AEAEFDGGD

While History's Muse the memorial was keepingA
Of all that the dark hand of Destiny weavesB
Beside her the Genius of Erin stood weepingA
For hers was the story that blotted the leavesB
But oh how the tear in her eyelids grew brightC
When after whole pages of sorrow and shameD
She saw History writeC
With a pencil of lightC
That illumed the whole volume her Wellington's nameD
-
Yet still the last crown of thy toils is remainingA
The grandest the purest even thou hast yet knownE
Though proud was thy task other nations unchainingA
Far prouder to heal the deep wounds of thy ownE
At the foot of that throne for whose weal thou hast stoodF
Go plead for the land that first cradled thy fameD
And bright o'er the floodG
Of her tears and her bloodG
Let the rainbow of Hope be her Wellington's nameD
