When The Sad Word. By Paul, The Silentiary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCC ADAECFCF

When the sad word Adieu from my lip is nigh fallingA
And with it Hope passes awayB
Ere the tongue hath half breathed it my fond heart recallingA
That fatal farewell bids me stayB
For oh 'tis a penance so wearyC
One hour from thy presence to beC
That death to this soul were less drearyC
Less dark than long absence from theeC
-
Thy beauty like Day o'er the dull world breakingA
Brings life to the heart it shines o'erD
And in mine a new feeling of happiness wakingA
Made light what was darkness beforeE
But mute is the Day's sunny gloryC
While thine hath a voice on whose breathF
More sweet than the Syren's sweet storyC
My hopes hang through life and through deathF
