When Love who ruled as Admiral o'erA
Has rosy mother's isles of lightB
Was cruising off the Paphian shoreC
A sail at sunset hove in sightB
A chase a chase my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
Aloft the winged sailors sprungF
And swarming up the mast like beesG
The snow white sails expanding flungF
Like broad magnolias to the breezeG
Yo ho yo ho my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
The chase was o'er the bark was caughtH
The winged crew her freight exploredI
And found 'twas just as Love had thoughtJ
For all was contraband aboardI
A prize a prize my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
Safe stowed in many a package thereK
And labelled slyly o'er as GlassL
Were lots of all the illegal wareK
Love's Custom House forbids to passL
O'erhaul o'erhaul my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
False curls they found of every hueM
With rosy blushes ready madeN
And teeth of ivory good as newM
For veterans in the smiling tradeN
Ho ho ho ho my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
Mock sighs too kept in bags for useO
Like breezes bought of Lapland seersP
Lay ready here to be let looseO
When wanted in young spinsters' earsQ
Ha ha ha ha my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
False papers next on board were foundR
Sham invoices of flames and dartsS
Professedly for Paphos boundR
But meant for Hymen's golden martsS
For shame for shame my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
Nay still to every fraud awakeT
Those pirates all Love's signals knewM
And hoisted oft his flag to makeT
Rich wards and heiresses bring toM
A foe a foe my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
This must not be the boy exclaimsU
In vain I rule the Paphian seasG
If Love's and Beauty's sovereign namesU
Are lent to cover frauds like theseG
Prepare prepare my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
-
Each Cupid stood with lighted matchV
A broadside struck the smuggling foeW
And swept the whole unhallowed batchV
Of Falsehood to the depths belowW
Huzza huzza my Cupids allD
Said Love the little AdmiralE
