When He Who Adores Thee Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDHD

When he who adores thee has left but the nameA
Of his fault and his sorrows behindB
Oh say wilt thou weep when they darken the fameA
Of a life that for thee was resign'dB
Yes weep and however my foes may condemnC
Thy tears shall efface their decreeD
For Heaven can witness though guilty to themC
I have been but too faithful to theeD
-
With thee were the dreams of my earliest loveE
Every thought of my reason was thineF
In my last humble prayer to the Spirit aboveE
Thy name shall be mingled with mineF
Oh blest are the lovers and friends who shall liveG
The days of thy glory to seeD
But the next dearest blessing that Heaven can giveH
Is the pride of thus dying for theeD
