Imitated from Horace lib i odeA
-
-
So may my Lady's prayers prevailB
And Canning's too and lucid Bragge'sC
And Eldon beg a favoring galeB
From Eolus that older BagsC
To speed thee on thy destined wayD
Oh ship that bearest our CastlereaghE
Our gracious Regent's better halfE
And therefore quarter of a KingF
As Van or any other calfE
May find without much figuringF
Waft him oh ye kindly breezesC
Waft this Lord of place and pelfE
Any where his Lordship pleasesC
Tho' 'twere to Old Nick himselfE
-
Oh what a face of brass was hisC
Who first at Congress showed his phizC
To sign away the Rights of ManG
To Russian threats and Austrian juggleH
And leave the sinking AfricanI
To fall without one saving struggleH
'Mong ministers from North and SouthJ
To show his lack of shame and senseC
And hoist the sign of Bull and MouthJ
For blunders and for eloquenceC
-
In vain we wish our Secs at homeK
To mind their papers desks and shelvesC
If silly Secs abroad will roamK
And make such noodles of themselvesC
-
But such hath always been the caseC
For matchless impudence of faceC
There's nothing like your Tory raceC
First Pitt the chosen of England taught herL
A taste for famine fire and slaughterL
Then came the Doctor for our easeC
With Eldons Chathams HawksburiesC
And other deadly maladiesC
When each in turn had run their rigsC
Necessity brought in the WhigsC
-
And oh I blush I blush to sayC
When these in turn were put to flight tooM
Illustrious TEMPLE flew awayC
With lots of pens he had no right toM
In short what will not mortal man doM
And now that strife and bloodshed pastN
We've done on earth what harm we can doM
We gravely take to heaven at lastN
And think its favoring smile to purchaseC
Oh Lord good Lord by building churchesC
