To The Book Of Follies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDEFFGGHHIIJJKKLL MMNNOKKKDD

WRITTEN IN A COMMONPLACE BOOK CALLED THE BOOK OF FOLLIES IN WHICH EVERY ONE THAT OPENED IT WAS TO CONTRIBUTE SOMETHINGA
-
-
This tribute's from a wretched elfB
Who hails thee emblem of himselfB
The book of life which I have tracedC
Has been like thee a motley wasteC
Of follies scribbled o'er and o'erD
One folly bringing hundreds moreE
Some have indeed been writ so neatF
In characters so fair so sweetF
That those who judge not too severelyG
Have said they loved such follies dearlyG
Yet still O book the allusion standsH
For these were penned by female handsH
The rest alas I own the truthI
Have all been scribbled so uncouthI
That Prudence with a withering lookJ
Disdainful flings away the bookJ
Like thine its pages here and thereK
Have oft been stained with blots of careK
And sometimes hours of peace I ownL
Upon some fairer leaves have shoneL
White as the snowings of that heavenM
By which those hours of peace were givenM
But now no longer such oh suchN
The blast of Disappointment's touchN
No longer now those hours appearO
Each leaf is sullied by a tearK
Blank blank is every page with careK
Not even a folly brightens thereK
Will they yet brighten never neverD
Then shut the book O God for everD
