To Mrs. ....... On Some Calumnies Against Her Character Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DEFFGGHHIIGG

Is not thy mind a gentle mindA
Is not that heart a heart refinedA
Hast thou not every gentle graceB
We love in woman's mind and faceB
And oh art thou a shrine for SinC
To hold her hateful worship inC
-
No no be happy dry that tearD
Though some thy heart hath harbored nearE
May now repay its love with blameF
Though man who ought to shield thy fameF
Ungenerous man be first to shun theeG
Though all the world look cold upon theeG
Yet shall thy pureness keep thee stillH
Unharmed by that surrounding chillH
Like the famed drop in crystal foundI
Floating while all was frozen roundI
Unchilled unchanging shalt thou beG
Safe in thy own sweet purityG
