To Julia. In Allusion To Some Illiberal Criticisms Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJ KKLLAABB

Why let the stingless critic chideA
With all that fume of vacant prideA
Which mantles o'er the pendant foolB
Like vapor on a stagnant poolB
Oh if the song to feeling trueC
Can please the elect the sacred fewC
Whose souls by Taste and Nature taughtD
Thrill with the genuine pulse of thoughtD
If some fond feeling maid like theeE
The warm eyed child of SympathyE
Shall say while o'er my simple themeF
She languishes in Passion's dreamF
He was indeed a tender soulG
No critic law no chill controlG
Should ever freeze by timid artH
The flowings of so fond a heartH
Yes soul of Nature soul of LoveI
That hovering like a snow winged doveI
Breathed o'er my cradle warblings wildJ
And hailed me Passion's warmest childJ
Grant me the tear from Beauty's eyeK
From Feeling's breast the votive sighK
Oh let my song my memory findL
A shrine within the tender mindL
And I will smile when critics chideA
And I will scorn the fume of prideA
Which mantles o'er the pendant foolB
Like vapor round some stagnant poolB
