To James Corry, Esq. On His Making Me A Present Of A Wine Strainer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FGFG GHGH CGCG

BRIGHTON JUNEA
-
-
This life dear Corry who can doubtB
Resembles much friend Ewart's wineC
When first the rosy drops come outB
How beautiful how clear they shineC
And thus awhile they keep their tintD
So free from even a shade with someE
That they would smile did you but hintD
That darker drops would ever comeE
-
But soon the ruby tide runs shortF
Each minute makes the sad truth plainerG
Till life like old and crusty portF
When near its close requires a strainerG
-
This friendship can alone conferG
Alone can teach the drops to passH
If not as bright as once they wereG
At least unclouded thro' the glassH
-
Nor Corry could a boon be mineC
Of which this heart were fonder vainerG
Than thus if life grow like old wineC
To have thy friendship for its strainerG
