They Tell Me Thou'rt The Favored Guest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII

They tell me thou'rt the favored guestA
Of every fair and brilliant throngB
No wit like thine to wake the jestA
No voice like thine to breathe the songB
And none could guess so gay thou artC
That thou and I are far apartC
-
Alas alas how different flowsD
With thee and me the time awayE
Not that I wish thee sad heaven knowsD
Still if thou canst be light and gayE
I only know that without theeF
The sun himself is dark to meF
-
Do I thus haste to hall and bowerG
Among the proud and gay to shineH
Or deck my hair with gem and flowerG
To flatter other eyes than thineH
Ah no with me love's smiles are pastI
Thou hadst the first thou hadst the lastI
