WRITTEN ABOARD THE BOSTON FRIGATEA
-
TH APRILB
-
-
When freshly blows the northern galeC
And under courses snug we flyD
Or when light breezes swell the sailC
And royals proudly sweep the skyD
'Longside the wheel unwearied stillE
I stand and as my watchful eyeD
Doth mark the needle's faithful thrillE
I think of her I love and cryD
Port my boy portF
-
When calms delay or breezes blowG
Right from the point we wish to steerH
When by the wind close hauled we goG
And strive in vain the port to nearH
I think 'tis thus the fates deferI
My bliss with one that's far awayJ
And while remembrance springs to herI
I watch the sails and sighing sayJ
Thus my boy thusK
-
But see the wind draws kindly aftL
All hands are up the yards to squareM
And now the floating stu'n sails waftN
Our stately ship thro' waves and airM
Oh then I think that yet for meO
Some breeze of fortune thus may springP
Some breeze to waft me love to theeO
And in that hope I smiling singP
Steady boy soG
