The Indian Boat Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDEDEFGHIIH JJKDDKDKDKFLHMMH KKKKKKNHNHOOKPPK

'Twas midnight darkA
The seaman's barkA
Swift o'er the waters bore himB
When thro' the nightC
He spied a lightC
Shoot o'er the wave before himB
A sail a sail he criesD
She comes from the Indian shoreE
And to night shall be our prizeD
With her freight of golden oreE
Sail on sail onF
When morning shoneG
He saw the gold still clearerH
But though so fastI
The waves he pastI
That boat seemed never the nearerH
-
Bright daylight cameJ
And still the sameJ
Rich bark before him floatedK
While on the prizeD
His wishful eyesD
Like any young lover's dotedK
More sail more sail he criesD
While the waves overtop the mastK
And his bounding galley fliesD
Like an arrow before the blastK
Thus on and onF
Till day was goneL
And the moon thro' heaven did hie herH
He swept the mainM
But all in vainM
That boat seemed never the nigherH
-
And many a dayK
To night gave wayK
And many a morn succeededK
While still his flightK
Thro day and nightK
That restless mariner speededK
Who knows who knows what seasN
He is now careering o'erH
Behind the eternal breezeN
And that mocking bark beforeH
For oh till skyO
And earth shall dieO
And their death leave none to rue itK
That boat must fleeP
O'er the boundless seaP
And that ship in vain pursue itK
