The Fortune-teller Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DEDE FGFG AHAH IJIJ

Down in the valley come meet me to nightA
And I'll tell you your fortune trulyB
As ever 'twas told by the new moon's lightA
To a young maiden shining as newlyB
-
But for the world let no one be nighC
Lest haply the stars should deceive meB
Such secrets between you and me and the skyC
Should never go farther believe meB
-
If at that hour the heavens be not dimD
My science shall call up before youE
A male apparition the image of himD
Whose destiny 'tis to adore youE
-
And if to that phantom you'll be kindF
So fondly around you he'll hoverG
You'll hardly my dear any difference findF
'Twixt him and a true living loverG
-
Down at your feet in the pale moonlightA
He'll kneel with a warmth of devotionH
An ardour of which such an innocent spriteA
You'd scarcely believe had a notionH
-
What other thoughts and events may ariseI
As in destiny's book I've not seen themJ
Must only be left to the stars and your eyesI
To settle ere morning between themJ
