The Euthanasia Of Van Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

We are told that the bigots are growing old and fast wearing out If it be so why not let us die in peaceA
LORD BEXLEY'S Letter to the Freeholders of KentB
-
-
Stop Intellect in mercy stopC
Ye curst improvements ceaseA
And let poor Nick Vansittart dropC
Into his grave in peaceA
-
Hide Knowledge hide thy rising sunD
Young Freedom veil thy headE
Let nothing good be thought or doneD
Till Nick Vansittart's deadE
-
Take pity on a dotard's fearsF
Who much doth light detestG
And let his last few drivelling yearsF
Be dark as were the restG
-
You too ye fleeting one pound notesH
Speed not so fast awayI
Ye rags on which old Nicky gloatsH
A few months longer stayI
-
Together soon or much I errJ
You both from life may goK
The notes unto the scavengerL
And Nick to Nick belowK
-
Ye Liberals whate'er your planM
Be all reforms suspendedN
In compliment to dear old VanM
Let nothing bad be mendedO
-
Ye Papists whom oppression wringsH
Your cry politely ceaseH
And fret your hearts to fiddle stringsH
That Van may die in peaceH
-
So shall he win a fame sublimeP
By few old rag men gainedQ
Since all shall own in Nicky's timeP
Nor sense nor justice reignedQ
-
So shall his name thro' ages pastR
And dolts ungotten yetS
Date from the days of NicholasH
With fond and sad regretS
-
And sighing say Alas had heT
Been spared from Pluto's bowersH
The blessed reign of BigotryT
And Rags might still be oursH
