The more I've viewed this world the more I've found | B |
That filled as 'tis with scenes and creatures rare | C |
Fancy commands within her own bright round | B |
A world of scenes and creatures far more fair | C |
Nor is it that her power can call up there | C |
A single charm that's not from Nature won | D |
No more than rainbows in their pride can wear | C |
A single hue unborrowed from the sun | D |
But 'tis the mental medium it shines thro' | C |
That lends to Beauty all its charm and hue | E |
As the same light that o'er the level lake | F |
One dull monotony of lustre flings | G |
Will entering in the rounded raindrop make | F |
Colors as gay as those on Peris' wings | G |
- | |
And such I deem the difference between real | H |
Existing Beauty and that form ideal | H |
Which she assumes when seen by poets' eyes | I |
Like sunshine in the drop with all those dyes | I |
Which Fancy's variegating prism supples | I |
- | |
I have a story of two lovers filled | J |
With all the pure romance the blissful sadness | I |
And the sad doubtful bliss that ever thrilled | J |
Two young and longing hearts in that sweet madness | I |
But where to choose the region of my vision | D |
In this wide vulgar world what real spot | K |
Can be found out sufficiently Elysian | D |
For two such perfect lovers I know not | K |
Oh for some fair FORMOSA such as he | L |
The young Jew fabled of in the Indian Sea | L |
By nothing but its name of Beauty known | D |
And which Queen Fancy might make all her own | D |
Her fairy kingdom take its people lands | I |
And tenements into her own bright hands | I |
And make at least one earthly corner fit | M |
For Love to live in pure and exquisite | N |
