Oh! Think Not My Spirits Are Always As Light Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEG HIHIJKKKLMLM

Oh think not my spirits are always as lightA
And as free from a pang as they seem to you nowB
Nor expect that the heart beaming smile of to nightA
Will return with to morrow to brighten my browB
No life is a waste of wearisome hoursC
Which seldom the rose of enjoyment adornsD
And the heart that is soonest awake to the flowersC
Is always the first to be touch'd by the thornsD
But send round the bowl and be happy awhileE
May we never meet worse in our pilgrimage hereF
Than the tear that enjoyment may gild with a smileE
And the smile that compassion can turn to a tearG
-
The thread of our life would be dark Heaven knowsH
If it were not with friendship and love intertwinedI
And I care not how soon I may sink to reposeH
When these blessing shall cease to be dear to my mindI
But they who have loved the fondest the purestJ
Too often have wept o'er the dream they believedK
And the heart that has slumber'd in friendship securestK
Is happy indeed if 'twas never deceivedK
But send round the bowl while a relic of truthL
Is in man or in woman this prayer shall be mineM
That the sunshine of love may illumine our youthL
And the moonlight of friendship console our declineM
