Oh, Soon Return Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDABAB EFEFGEGEHBIB

Our white sail caught the evening rayA
The wave beneath us seemed to burnB
When all the weeping maid could sayA
Was Oh soon returnB
Thro' many a clime our ship was drivenC
O'er many a billow rudely thrownD
Now chilled beneath a northern heavenC
Now sunned in summer's zoneD
And still where'er we bent our wayA
When evening bid the west wave burnB
I fancied still I heard her sayA
Oh soon returnB
-
If ever yet my bosom foundE
Its thoughts one moment turned from theeF
'Twas when the combat raged aroundE
And brave men looked to meF
But tho' the war field's wild alarmG
For gentle love was all unmeetE
He lent to glory's brow the charmG
Which made even danger sweetE
And still when victory's calm came o'erH
The hearts where rage had ceased to burnB
Those parting words I heard once moreI
Oh soon return Oh soon returnB
