Odes Of Anacreon - Ode Xxviii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDAAEEFFGGHH IICCJKLL

As by his Lemnian forge's flameA
The husband of the Paphian dameA
Moulded the glowing steel to formB
Arrows for Cupid thrilling warmB
And Venus as he plied his artC
Shed honey round each new made dartC
While Love at hand to finish allD
Tipped every arrow's point with gallD
It chanced the Lord of Battles cameA
To visit that deep cave of flameA
'Twas from the ranks of war he rushedE
His spear with many a life drop blushedE
He saw the fiery darts and smiledF
Contemptuous at the archer childF
What said the urchin dost thou smileG
Here hold this little dart awhileG
And thou wilt find though swift of flightH
My bolts are not so feathery lightH
-
Mars took the shaft and oh thy lookI
Sweet Venus when the shaft he tookI
Sighing he felt the urchin's artC
And cried in agony of heartC
It is not light I sink with painJ
Take take thy arrow back againK
No said the child it must not beL
That little dart was made for theeL
