Odes Of Anacreon - Ode Xiii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHHII JJKKLLBBMMGGNN

I will I will the conflict's pastA
And I'll consent to love at lastA
Cupid has long with smiling artB
Invited me to yield my heartB
And I have thought that peace of mindC
Should not be for a smile resignedC
And so repelled the tender lureD
And hoped my heart would sleep secureD
-
But slighted in his boasted charmsE
The angry infant flew to armsE
He slung his quiver's golden frameF
He took his bow his shafts of flameF
And proudly summoned me to yieldG
Or meet him on the martial fieldG
And what did I unthinking doH
I took to arms undaunted tooH
Assumed the corslet shield and spearI
And like Pelides smiled at fearI
-
Then hear it All ye powers aboveJ
I fought with Love I fought with LoveJ
And now his arrows all were shedK
And I had just in terror fledK
When heaving an indignant sighL
To see me thus unwounded flyL
And having now no other dartB
He shot himself into my heartB
My heart alas the luckless dayM
Received the God and died awayM
Farewell farewell my faithless shieldG
Thy lord at length is forced to yieldG
Vain vain is every outward careN
The foe's within and triumphs thereN
