Rhyme Scheme: AB CCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJAAKK LLLLMMNNCC OODDAAGia era in loco ove s'udia l'rimbombo | A |

From rise of morn till set of sun | C |
I've seen the mighty Mohawk run | C |
And as I markt the woods of pine | D |
Along his mirror darkly shine | D |
Like tall and gloomy forms that pass | E |
Before the wizard's midnight glass | E |
And as I viewed the hurrying pace | F |
With which he ran his turbid race | F |
Rushing alike untried and wild | G |
Through shades that frowned and flowers that smiled | G |
Flying by every green recess | H |
That wooed him to its calm caress | H |
Yet sometimes turning with the wind | I |
As if to leave one look behind | I |
Oft have I thought and thinking sighed | J |
How like to thee thou restless tide | J |
May be the lot the life of him | A |
Who roams along thy water's brim | A |
Through what alternate wastes of woe | K |
And flowers of joy my path may go | K |
How many a sheltered calm retreat | L |
May woo the while my weary feet | L |
While still pursuing still unblest | L |
I wander on nor dare to rest | L |
But urgent as the doom that calls | M |
Thy water to its destined falls | M |
I feel the world's bewildering force | N |
Hurry my heart's devoted course | N |
From lapse to lapse till life be done | C |
And the spent current cease to run | C |
- | |
One only prayer I dare to make | O |
As onward thus my course I take | O |
Oh be my falls as bright as thine | D |
May heaven's relenting rainbow shine | D |
Upon the mist that circles me | A |
As soft as now it hangs o'er thee | A |
