Light Sounds The Harp Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDEEDABABFGFGHH IJKILGLG

Light sounds the harp when the combat is overA
When heroes are resting and joy is in bloomB
When laurels hang loose from the brow of the loverA
And Cupid makes wings of the warrior's plumeB
But when the foe returnsC
Again the hero burnsC
High flames the sword in his hand once moreD
The clang of mingling armsE
Is then the sound that charmsE
And brazen notes of war that stirring trumpets pourD
Then again comes the Harp when the combat is overA
When heroes are resting and Joy is in bloomB
When laurels hang loose from the brow of the loverA
And Cupid makes wings of the warrior's plumeB
Light went the harp when the War God recliningF
Lay lulled on the white arm of Beauty to restG
When round his rich armor the myrtle hung twiningF
And flights of young doves made his helmet their nestG
But when the battle cameH
The hero's eye breathed flameH
Soon from his neck the white arm was flungI
While to his waking earJ
No other sounds were dearK
But brazen notes of war by thousand trumpets sungI
But then came the light harp when danger was endedL
And Beauty once more lulled the War God to restG
When tresses of gold with his laurels lay blendedL
And flights of young doves made his helmet their nestG
