It Is Not The Tear At This Moment Shed.[1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCC CDCDEFEF

It is not the tear at this moment shedA
When the cold turf has just been laid o'er himB
That can tell how beloved was the friend that's fledA
Or how deep in our hearts we deplore himB
'Tis the tear thro' many a long day weptC
'Tis life's whole path o'ershadedC
'Tis the one remembrance fondly keptC
When all lighter griefs have fadedC
-
Thus his memory like some holy lightC
Kept alive in our hearts will improve themD
For worth shall look fairer and truth more brightC
When we think how we lived but to love themD
And as fresher flowers the sod perfumeE
Where buried saints are lyingF
So our hearts shall borrow a sweetening bloomE
From the image he left there in dyingF
