Flourish Of Trumpets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACBDDEFGGHIIH JKHLHLMNMOONFCFP

Hark 'tis the sound that charmsA
The war steed's wakening earsB
Oh many a mother folds her armsA
Round her boy soldier when that call she hearsC
And tho' her fond heart sink with fearsB
Is proud to feel his young pulse boundD
With valor's fever at the soundD
See from his native hills afarE
The rude Helvetian flies to warF
Careless for what for whom he fightsG
For slave or despot wrongs or rightsG
A conqueror oft a hero neverH
Yet lavish of his life blood stillI
As if 'twere like his mountain rillI
And gushed foreverH
-
Yes Music here even hereJ
Amid this thoughtless vague careerK
Thy soul felt charm asserts its wondrous powerH
There's a wild air which oft among the rocksL
Of his own loved land at evening hourH
Is heard when shepherds homeward pipe their flocksL
Whose every note hath power to thrill his mindM
With tenderest thoughts to bring around his kneesN
The rosy children whom he left behindM
And fill each little angel eyeO
With speaking tears that ask him whyO
He wandered from his hut for scenes like theseN
Vain vain is then the trumpet's brazen roarF
Sweet notes of home of love are all he hearsC
And the stern eyes that looked for blood beforeF
Now melting mournful lose themselves in tearsP
