Dreams. To ... ... Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB ADCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KGKG LMNM OGOG PQPQ RSTS

In slumber I prithee how is itA
That souls are oft taking the airB
And paying each other a visitC
While bodies are heaven knows whereB
-
Last night 'tis in vain to deny itA
Your soul took a fancy to roamD
For I heard her on tiptoe so quietC
Come ask whether mine was at homeD
-
And mine let her in with delightE
And they talked and they laughed the time throughF
For when souls come together at nightE
There is no saying what they mayn't doF
-
And your little Soul heaven bless herG
Had much to complain and to sayH
Of how sadly you wrong and oppress herG
By keeping her prisoned all dayH
-
If I happen said she but to stealI
For a peep now and then to her eyeJ
Or to quiet the fever I feelI
Just venture abroad on a sighJ
-
In an instant she frightens me inK
With some phantom of prudence or terrorG
For fear I should stray into sinK
Or what is still worse into errorG
-
So instead of displaying my gracesL
By daylight in language and mienM
I am shut up in corners and placesN
Where truly I blush to be seenM
-
Upon hearing this piteous confessionO
My Soul looking tenderly at herG
Declared as for grace and discretionO
He did not know much of the matterG
-
But to morrow sweet Spirit he saidP
Be at home after midnight and thenQ
I will come when your lady's in bedP
And we'll talk o'er the subject againQ
-
So she whispered a word in his earR
I suppose to her door to direct himS
And just after midnight my dearT
Your polite little Soul may expect himS
