Cotton And Corn. A Dialogue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHI JJJJ KLKL JMJM ANAN

Said Cotton to Corn t'other dayA
As they met and exchanged a saluteB
Squire Corn in his carriage so gayA
Poor Cotton half famished on footC
-
Great Squire if it isn't uncivilD
To hint at starvation before youE
Look down on a poor hungry devilD
And give him some bread I implore youE
-
Quoth Corn then in answer to CottonF
Perceiving he meant to make freeG
Low fellow you've surely forgottenF
The distance between you and meG
-
To expect that we Peers of high birthH
Should waste our illustrious acresI
For no other purpose on earthH
Than to fatten curst calico makersI
-
That Bishops to bobbins should bendJ
Should stoop from their Bench's sublimityJ
Great dealers in lawn to befriendJ
Such contemptible dealers in dimityJ
-
No vile Manufacture ne'er harborK
A hope to be fed at our boardsL
Base offspring of Arkwright the barberK
What claim canst thou have upon LordsL
-
No thanks to the taxes and debtJ
And the triumph of paper o'er guineasM
Our race of Lord Jemmys as yetJ
May defy your whole rabble of JennysM
-
So saying whip crack and awayA
Went Corn in his chaise thro' the throngN
So headlong I heard them all sayA
Squire Corn will be down before longN
