Alarming Intelligence! Revolution In The Dictionary--one Galt At The Head Of It Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIHI JKLKL ILIL MNMN OPOP

God preserve us there's nothing now safe from assaultA
Thrones toppling around churches brought to the hammerB
And accounts have just reached us that one Mr GaltA
Has declared open war against English and GrammarB
-
He had long been suspected of some such designC
And the better his wicked intents to arrive atD
Had lately 'mong Colburn's troops of the lineC
The penny a line men enlisted as privateE
-
There schooled with a rabble of words at commandF
Scotch English and slang in promiscuous allianceG
He at length against Syntax has taken his standF
And sets all the Nine Parts of Speech at defianceG
-
Next advices no doubt further facts will affordH
In the mean time the danger most imminent growsI
He has taken the Life of one eminent LordH
And whom he'll next murder the Lord only knowsI
-
Wednesday eveningJ
Since our last matters luckily look more sereneK
Tho' the rebel 'tis stated to aid his defectionL
Has seized a great Powder no Puff MagazineK
And the explosions are dreadful in every directionL
-
What his meaning exactly is nobody knowsI
As he talks in a strain of intense botherationL
Of lyrical ichor gelatinous proseI
And a mixture called amber immortalizationL
-
Now he raves of a bard he once happened to meetM
Seated high among rattlings and churning a sonnetN
Now talks of a mystery wrapt in a sheetM
With a halo by way of a nightcap upon itN
-
We shudder in tracing these terrible linesO
Something bad they must mean tho' we can't make it outP
For whate'er may be guessed of Galt's secret designsO
That they're all Anti English no Christian can doubtP
