Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEFE GHGH IJIJ GKGK LMLM

A
-
-
Missing or lost last Sunday nightB
A Waterloo coin whereon was tracedC
The inscription Courage in letters brightB
Tho' a little by rust of years defacedC
-
The metal thereof is rough and hardD
And 'tis thought of late mixt up with brassE
But it bears the stamp of Fame's awardF
And thro' all Posterity's hands will passE
-
How it was lost God only knowsG
But certain City thieves they sayH
Broke in on the owner's evening dozeG
And filched this gift of gods awayH
-
One ne'er could of course the Cits suspectI
If we hadn't that evening chanced to seeJ
At the robbed man's door a Mare electI
With an ass to keep her companyJ
-
Whosoe'er of this lost treasure knowsG
Is begged to state all facts about itK
As the owner can't well face his foesG
Nor even his friends just now without itK
-
And if Sir Clod will bring it backL
Like a trusty Baronet wise and ableM
He shall have a ride on the whitest hackL
That's left in old King George's stableM
