Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJII KK LLLLMMNNHHHOOO BBPPQQRRSSSS

Then I heard one saint speaking and another saint said unto that saintA
-
-
St Sinclair rose and declared in smoothB
That he wouldn't give sixpence to MaynoothB
He had hated priests the whole of his lifeC
For a priest was a man who had no wifeC
And having no wife the Church was his motherD
The Church was his father sister and brotherD
This being the case he was sorry to sayE
That a gulf 'twixt Papist and Protestant layE
So deep and wide scarce possible was itF
To say even how d' ye do across itF
And tho' your Liberals nimble as fleasG
Could clear such gulfs with perfect easeG
'Twas a jump that naught on earth could makeH
Your proper heavy built Christian takeH
No no if a Dance of Sects must beI
He would set to the Baptist willinglyI
At the Independent deign to smirkJ
And rigadoon with old Mother KirkJ
Nay even for once if needs must beI
He'd take hands round with all the threeI
But as to a jig with Popery noK
To the Harlot ne'er would he point his toeK
-
St Mandeville was the next that roseL
A saint who round as pedler goesL
With his pack of piety and proseL
Heavy and hot enough God knowsL
And he said that Papists were much inclinedM
To extirpate all of Protestant kindM
Which he couldn't in truth so much condemnN
Having rather a wish to extirpate themN
That is to guard against mistakeH
To extirpate them for their doctrine's sakeH
A distinction Churchman always makeH
Insomuch that when they've prime controlO
Tho' sometimes roasting heretics wholeO
They but cook the body for sake of the soulO
-
Next jumpt St Johnston jollily forthB
The spiritual Dogberry of the NorthB
A right wise fellow and what's moreP
An officer like his type of yoreP
And he asked if we grant such tolerationQ
Pray what's the use of our ReformationQ
What is the use of our Church and StateR
Our Bishops Articles Tithe and RateR
And still as he yelled out what's the useS
Old Echoes from their cells recluseS
Where they'd for centuries slept broke looseS
Yelling responsive What's the useS
