Thoughts Of Phena - At News Of Her Death Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJABAB K

Not a line of her writing have IA
Not a thread of her hairB
No mark of her late time as dame in her dwelling wherebyA
I may picture her thereB
And in vain do I urge my unsightC
To conceive my lost prizeD
At her close whom I knew when her dreams were upbrimming with lightC
And with laughter her eyesD
-
What scenes spread around her last daysE
Sad shining or dimF
Did her gifts and compassions enray and enarch her sweet waysE
With an aureate nimbF
Or did life light decline from her yearsG
And mischances controlH
Her full day star unease or regret or forebodings or fearsG
Disennoble her soulH
-
Thus I do but the phantom retainI
Of the maiden of yoreJ
As my relic yet haply the best of her fined in my brainI
It maybe the moreJ
That no line of her writing have IA
Nor a thread of her hairB
No mark of her late time as dame in her dwelling wherebyA
I may picture her thereB
-
