The Whitewashed Wall Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEF GHIHJKJK LBMBNENE

Why does she turn in that shy soft wayA
Whenever she stirs the fireB
And kiss to the chimney corner wallC
As if entranced to admireD
Its whitewashed bareness more than the sightE
Of a rose in richest greenF
I have known her long but this raptured riteE
I never before have seenF
-
Well once when her son cast his shadow thereG
A friend took a pencil and drew himH
Upon that flame lit wall And the linesI
Had a lifelike semblance to himH
And there long stayed his familiar lookJ
But one day ere she knewK
The whitener came to cleanse the nookJ
And covered the face from viewK
-
Yes he said My brush goes on with a rushL
And the draught is buried underB
When you have to whiten old cots and brightenM
What else can you do I wonderB
But she knows he's there And when she yearnsN
For him deep in the labouring nightE
She sees him as close at hand and turnsN
To him under his sheet of whiteE
