The Ivy-wife Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAB CDCDCD EDFDEG HBHBHB

I LONGED to love a full boughed beechA
And be as high as heB
I stretched an arm within his reachA
And signalled unityB
But with his drip he forced a breachA
And tried to poison meB
-
I gave the grasp of partnershipC
To one of other raceD
A plane he barked him strip by stripC
From upper bough to baseD
And me therewith for gone my gripC
My arms could not enlaceD
-
In new affection next I stroveE
To coll an ash I sawD
And he in trust received my loveF
Till with my soft green clawD
I cramped and bound him as I woveE
Such was my love ha haG
-
By this I gained his strength and heightH
Without his rivalryB
But in my triumph I lost sightH
Of afterhaps Soon heB
Being bark bound flagged snapped fell outrightH
And in his fall felled meB
