Can anything availA
Beldame for my hid griefB
Listen I'll tell the taleA
It may bring faint reliefB
-
I came where I was not knownC
In hope to flee my sinD
And walking forth aloneC
A young man said 'Good e'en '-
-
In gentle voice and trueE
He asked to marry meF
'You only only youE
Fulfil my dream ' said heF
-
We married o' Monday mornG
In the month of hay and flowersH
My cares were nigh forswornG
And perfect love was oursH
-
But ere the days are longI
Untimely fruit will showJ
My Love keeps up his songI
Undreaming it is soJ
-
And I awake in the nightK
And think of months gone byL
And of that cause of flightK
Hidden from my Love's eyeL
-
Discovery borders nearM
And then But something stirredN
My husband he is hereO
Heaven has he overheardN
-
Yes I have heard sweet NanP
I have known it all the timeQ
I am not a particular manP
Misfortunes are no crimeQ
-
And what with our serious needR
Of sons for soldieringS
That accident indeedR
To maids is a useful thingS
