The Cave Of The Unborn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDB EFGGEF HIJJHI IKIIIK

I rose at night and visitedA
The Cave of the UnbornB
And crowding shapes surrounded meC
For tidings of the life to beC
Who long had prayed the silent HeadD
To speed their advent mornB
-
Their eyes were lit with artless trustE
Hope thrilled their every toneF
A place the loveliest is it notG
A pure delight a beauty spotG
Where all is gentle pure and justE
And violence is unknownF
-
My heart was anguished for their sakeH
I could not frame a wordI
But they descried my sunken faceJ
And seemed to read therein and traceJ
The news which Pity would not breakH
Nor Truth leave unaverredI
-
And as I silently retiredI
I turned and watched them stillK
And they came helter skelter outI
Driven forward like a rabble routI
Into the world they had so desiredI
By the all immanent WillK
