The Bedridden Peasant Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

To An Unknowing GodA
-
-
-
Much wonder I here long low laidB
That this dead wall should beC
Betwixt the Maker and the madeB
Between Thyself and meC
-
For say one puts a child to nurseD
He eyes it now and thenE
To know if better 'tis or worseD
And if it mourn and whenE
-
But Thou Lord giv'st us men our clayF
In helpless bondage thusG
To Time and Chance and seem'st straightwayH
To think no more of usG
-
That some disaster cleft Thy schemeI
And tore us wide apartJ
So that no cry can cross I deemI
For Thou art mild of heartJ
-
And would'st not shape and shut us inK
Where voice can not he heardL
'Tis plain Thou meant'st that we should winK
Thy succour by a wordL
-
Might but Thy sense flash down the skiesM
Like man's from clime to climeI
Thou would'st not let me agonizeM
Through my remaining timeI
-
But seeing how much Thy creatures bearN
Lame starved or maimed or blindO
Thou'dst heal the ills with quickest careN
Of me and all my kindO
-
Then since Thou mak'st not these things beC
But these things dost not knowP
I'll praise Thee as were shown to meC
The mercies Thou would'st showP
